Most of us try to deal with stress without understanding it.

Stress is a reaction to a perceived threat whether real or imagined. It is a fear response that we interpret and react to our perception of what threat may be occurring. The way we usually deal with stress is by distracting ourselves from the real issue of our unhappiness with destructive behavior like smoking or drinking in excess. These destructive behaviors are only symptoms and only cause more stress, they don’t get to the source of the problem to eliminate it. Trying to change ourselves and the way we react can be stressful and frustrating.
